Materials: Bernat Berella ‘4' by Spinrite, 8-1/2 oz. #8942 White,
4 oz. #8994 Black, small amount #8943 Baby Pink;
G (4.5mm) hook;
polyester fiberfill; 1/4" Rose Satin Ribbon, 1-1/3 yds;
1/6" Rose Satin Ribbon, 11";
25mm Gold Bell;
Size 3/0 snaps, 3 sets;
Metal Bucket, 3-1/4" including handle;
Pink Acrylic Paint;
paintbrush;
sewing and tapestry needles;
small piece stiff plastic canvas;
black permanent marker;

Gauge: 4 sc = 1 inch; 4 sc rows = 1 inch

Note: Do not join rnds unless otherwise indicated. 
Mark first st of each rnd.


HEAD AND BODY: Starting at top of head with Black, ch 2; 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6).

Rnd 2: 2 sc in ea sc around. (12).

Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (18).

Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc (twice), changing to White in last sc made; with White, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, * changing to Black in last sc made; repeat between *'s once, changing to black in last sc made of Rnd 4. (24).

Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc (twice), change to White, sc in next 3 sc, 2 dc in next sc, * change to black; repeat between *'s once. (30).

BODY BOTTOM

Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (24).

At end of Rnd 7, join with a sl st to first sc. Fasten off, leaving length for sewing.

Using crochet body bottom as a pattern, cut plastic canvas in a circle, slightly smaller. Stuff body firmly and sew body bottom to body, matching stitches, and inserting plastic canvas before closing.

MUZZLE

Rnd 1: With Pink, ch 5; 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, 4 sc in last ch; working on opposite side of starting ch, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in last sc. (12).

Rnd 2: 2 sc in first 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next 4 sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in last 2 sc. (20).

Rnds 3 & 4: Sc in ea sc around. (20).

At end of Rnd 4, join with a sl st to first sc. Fasten off, leaving length for sewing. Sew muzzle to head over Rnd 16-21 as shown, stuffing lightly before closing.

EYES

Using Black and Satin Stitch, embroider eyes over Rnds 12 & 13, 1-1/2" apart.

NOSTRILS

Using Black and Straight Stitch, embroider nostrils over top of Rnd 2 of Muzzle, 3/4" apart.

EARS (Make 2)

Rnd 1: With Black, ch 2; 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6).

Rnd 2: 2 sc in ea sc around. (12).

Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (18).

Rnds 4-10: Sc in ea sc around. (18).

Rnd 11: (Sc in next sc, dec over next 2 sc) around. (12).

Rnd 12: (Dec over next 2 sc) around. (6).

Fasten off, leaving length for sewing. Flatten ears, fold in half, and sew to sides of head.

ARMS (Make 2)

Rnds 1 & 2: With Black, Repeat Rnds 1 & 2 of Body Bottom. (12).

Rnd 3: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (15).

Rnds 4 & 5: Sc in ea sc around, changing to White in last st made of Rnd 6. (15). Fasten off Black.

Rnds 6-20: With White, sc in ea sc around. (15); join with a sl st to first sc.

Fasten off, leaving length for sewing. Stuff arms; flatten at top and sew to sides of body.


DRESS

Row 1: With White, ch 30; sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5 ch, * 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 3 ch, 3 sc in next ch, * sc in next 7 ch, repeat between *'s once, sc in last 6 ch, ch 1, turn. (37).

Row 2: (right side) Sc in first 6 sc, * (2 sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc), sc in next 3 sc, * repeat between ( )'s once, sc in next 7 sc, repeat between *'s once; repeat between ( )'s once, sc in last 6 sc, ch 1, turn. (53).

Row 3: Sc in first 10 sc, ch 10, skip next 9 sc, sc in next 15 sc, ch 10, skip next 9 sc, sc in last 10 sc, ch 1, turn. (35 sc, 20 ch).

Row 4: Sc in ea sc and ch across, ch 1, turn. (55).

Row 5: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (55).

Row 6: Sc in first 14 sc, dec over next 2 sc, sc in next 23 sc, dec over next 2 sc, sc in last 14 sc, ch 1, turn. (53).

Rows 8-11: Repeat Row 5. (51).

Row 13: 2 sc in first sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) across, ch 1, turn. (230 sc).

Rows 14 & 15: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (230).

NOTE: Graph starts at Row 16. Each box represents one sc. The graph is 115 sts wide and you will be working over 230 sc, so you will need to repeat the graph twice for each row. Stitch #1 on graph is also Stitch #116, and so on. Ch 1, and turn after each row. Row 16 is read from right to left and Row 17 from left to right, and so on. (If you are a left-handed crocheter, the rows will be read opposite). Wind approximately 10 small balls of Black and 10 small balls of White for color changes. If you are unfamiliar with changing colors, skirt can be made in solid White yarn.

Rows 16-55: Following graph and changing colors as colors change on graph, sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (230).

At end of Row 55, fasten off Black.

Rows 56 & 57: With White, sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (230).

Row 58: Ch 3, sl st in first sc, (ch 3, sl st in next sc) across. Fasten off.

Armhole Trim Rnd 1: With right side facing, join White with a sc in any st at armhole opening, sc in ea st around armhole opening; join with a sl st to first sc, ch 1, turn. (23).

Rnd 2: (Ch 3, sl st in next sc) around; join with a sl st to first sl st. Fasten off.

Repeat for opposite armhole.


FINISHING

Using White and tapestry needle, sew back seam of dress up to Row 18.
With sewing needle and thread, sew 3 snaps evenly spaced along back opening.
Place dress on cow.


Thread Gold Bell onto the 1/16" satin ribbon and tie on cow at back of neck to fit. Trim ends.

Hair Bow: Cut 1/4" satin ribbon into 3, 16" pieces. Holding all three pieces together, tie into a bow. Sew bow to top of head, as shown in photo.

Using pink acrylic paint, paint bucket. Let dry. Using Black Marker, write

Using matching thread, sew handle of bucket to cow hand.
