New Venus Yarn by Patons

Patons has introduced a new yarn to their line and I cannot wait to try this yarn!

The website describes it as a "lightweight cotton blend with a thick and thin texture".

I like to 'dabble' sometimes using different textures of yarns to see which crochet stitches make it look it's 'best'. The colors of Venus are super inspiring and I cannot wait to see them in person.

I will definitely be checking my local crafts stores to see if they have this in stock.
Has anyone seen this yarn in stores yet?

Yarn Review: Paton's Lace Sequin

I recently had the pleasure of designing a new scarf pattern for a family member. It needed to be a warm weather 'fashion' scarf and unlike more of my cold weather accessories, I wanted it to be 'dainty'. After browsing the yarn section, I decided to choose a yarn that I have not worked with before, Paton's Lace Sequin in #37707 Ruby, since red is Mary Jo's favorite color. Isn't it a beautiful color of yarn?

Here are the specifications on Paton's Lace from the Yarnspirations website:

Contents: 68% Acrylic, 14% Polyester, 9% Wool, 9% Mohair
Put-up: 2.50 oz / 70 g
Length: 344 yd / 314 m
Knitting Tension:
26 sts -  32 = 4"(10 cm)
Crochet Tension:
24  sc -  26 rows = 4"(10 cm)
Suggested Knitting Needle:
3.50 mm, US - 4
Suggested Crochet Hook:
3.50 mm, US - E/4

I loved the stitch definition and the drape that I achieved in this scarf.
I used a G hook (4 mm), as I wanted the design to be a bit 'lacey' without the double crochets looking too 'holey'. The 4mm hook worked well to achieve the look and drape I was going for.
When crocheting with Lace Sequin yarn, you should try to be careful that you don't need to rip out too many stitches (frogging). The yarn has a mohair quality to it and sometimes crochet stitches and the small sequins got 'stuck' while I was trying to frog a row. But other than that, I had no problems with crocheting with this yarn.
I would recommend this yarn to anyone who want to make something pretty and lacey with just a bit of 'bling' to it!

Galler Yarns INCA-ECO Cotton

I am delighted to have been asked to join the blog tour for a new yarn by Galler Yarns. The yarn is Inca-Eco 100% organic cotton and is available in 15 pretty shades! I chose a really pretty shade of pink called Blossom which I love!

Inca-Eco is imported from Peru and is a slight thick and thin yarn. The yarn was easy to wind and did not become all tangled like some yarns do. I love the fact that it is dyed with "low-impact, environmentally-friendly dyes". The skein is a generous 140 yards and 3-1/2 ounces and that is definitely enough for a small project! It is available in Ecru, Butter, Sage, Blue Stone, Blossom, Rose, Lavender, Aloe, Aqua, Denim, Espresso, Wine, Raspberry, Navy, Black.

Inca-Eco is so soft and easy to crochet with. It slides easily through your hands and fingers, which can make for faster and more comfortable crocheting. I design a lot of newborn photography props and this yarn would be ideal for this kind of crochet item for babies, as it is not only very soft, but also organic!

Inca-Eco would make wonderful wearables and accessories, so I chose to create a slouchy beret with it for my daughter. She loves this color pink! The crochet fabric has a beautiful drape, especially when crocheting with a larger hook. I used an N (9mm) crochet hook for the sample beret. I hope to be able to show you the finished beret in another post.

Friday Fun - Crochet Patterns

Let's face it....crocheters and knitters LOVE patterns! Some stitchers collect patterns the way others collect antiques! The downside to this is that we NEVER get around to making ALL the designs that are in our library. The upside is that we can be continually INSPIRED by the best and the brightest crochet and knit designs that are out there. Here are a few for this week:

Cupcakes by Skymagenta  --
These cupcakes are not only cute, they are PRETTY! You can purchase the pattern from Skymagenta.
Skymagenta has a wonderful pattern shop on Ravelry and
you won't believe all the incredible crochet goodies she has to offer!

Dahlia Shawl by Lisa Naskrent for Interweave  -- Wouldn't this Dahlia SHAWL by Lisa Naskrent be beautiful for the HOLIDAYS? Gorgeous!

Peter and Patty Pilgrim by Rachel of Crochet Spot  --  How cute are these crochet Pilgrims? They measure between 8 and 10 inches, so I think they would crochet up quickly. Especially for this month!

Urban Revival Slouch Hat by Vicki Howell  -  Love this slouchy hat! Functional yet ultra feminine!
