Duckie Bib

I finally found the time to write up the instructions for the Duckie Bib. You can click on the picture to find the instructions.



This is the pattern I created for Jacob for his Easter Basket. He loves it! It is perfect for a baby that is just starting to eat baby food. You could even put a squeaker in the beak if you wanted to, although that might really distract the baby during mealtime!
I haven't been able to find very much time lately for crocheting or knitting! Sometimes the business end of self-publishing takes up so much time, there is not always alot of time left over for the fun stuff! I am going to try and make as much time as I can this weekend for crocheting.

Materials: Red Heart Classic worsted weight, 1 oz. #322 Pale Yellow,
small amount of #354 Vibrant Orange and #312 Black;
G hook (4mm); tapestry needle;

Gauge: 4 sc = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch

Size: Bib measures approximately 8-1/2 inches long

Body of Bib

Row 1: With Pale Yellow, ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across,
ch 1, turn. (14).
Rows 2-7: 2 sc in first sc, sc in ea sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc,
ch 1, turn. (16,18,20,22,24,26).
Rows 8-23: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (26).

Divide for Neck
First Side
Row 24: Sc in next 10 sc, ch 1, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked. (10).
Row 25: Skip first sc, sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (9).
Rows 26 & 27: Sc in ea sc across to last 2 sc, dec over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (8,7).
Row 28: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (7).
Row 29: Repeat Row 26. (6).
Rows 30-34: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (6).
Fasten off.

Second Side
Row 24: Skip 6 sts on Row 23; join Pale Yellow with a sc in next st; sc in last 9 sc, ch 1, turn. (10).
Row 25: Sc in ea sc across to last 2 sc, dec over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (9).
Rows 26 & 27: Skip first sc, sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (8,7).
Row 28: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (7).
Row 29: Repeat Row 26. (6).
Rows 30-34: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (6).
At end of Row 34, do not fasten off.

Rnd 35: Working in ends of rows and in ea sc, sc around outer edge of bib, making 3 sc in four top corners; join with a sl st to first sc.

Ties
Join Pale Yellow at top neck edge; ch 50. Fasten off. Repeat for other top neck edge. Tie ends of ch into a knot.

Beak
Note: Do not join rnds unless indicated. Mark first st of each rnd.
Rnd 1: With Vibrant Orange, ch 7; 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch, 4 sc in last ch; working on opposite side of starting ch, sc in next 4 ch, 2 sc in last ch. (16).
Rnds 2-5: Sc in ea sc around. (16).
At end of Rnd 5, join with a sl st to first sc.
Fasten off, leaving length for sewing.
Sew beak to front of bib, centered over Row 11.

Eyes
With Black and Satin Stitch, embroider eyes over Rows 15 & 16, 3 inches apart.

Hair Loops
Leaving a 10 inch tail, wrap Vibrant Orange 3 times around 2 fingers, leaving another 10 inch tail. Using each 10 inch tail, secure loops at base of fingers with a knot. Thread each tail from front to back at center top of duck head as shown in photo. Tie tail in back to secure loops in place.

Yeah!

Yes, I am crocheting again! I have finished the body of the dress of the Ginger Girl, and now I am working on the sleeves. The dress should be finished lickety-split, and then I can start working on the pantaloons. It is so nice out today; everyone thinks I am crazy to be sitting around crocheting, and maybe I am, but I just have to get this done! There are other projects I am itching to be working on. I want to finish up the zen/suede bag, and start the poncho; (can't talk about who it is for, just in case she reads this! lol). But, as always, I must be a good little girl, and finish what needs to be done first, and then I can play! On that note, back to the Gingers!

Crochet/Knitting Drought

With so many things going on this week, I haven't had time to pick up a crochet hook or my knitting needles since last Sunday. I haven't even had the time to read my new Knitting Dictionary yet! Boo hoo! I am in need of a crochet fix.....the closest thing I have come to crochet is filling orders at cutecrochet.com. I am going to try to rectify that today and this weekend. Wish me luck!

Materials: Red Heart Classic worsted weight, 1-1/2 oz. #261 Maize, 1/2 oz. #412 Silver;
small amount of #312 Black;
G hook (4mm); 5/8" Velcro Sticky Back Hook and Loop Fasteners, 1 set;
pacifier or toy; sewing and tapestry needles; matching sewing thread
GAUGE 9 sc = 2 inches.

Body of Bib

Row 1: With Maize, ch 35, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across, ch 1, turn. (34).
Rows 2-34: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (34).

Divide for Neck
First Side
Row 35: Sc in first 12 sc, leaving rem sts unworked, ch 1, turn. (12).
Row 36: Dec over first 2 sc, sc in next 10 sc, ch 1, turn. (11).
Row 37: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (11).
Rows 38 & 39: Repeat Rows 36 & 37. (10).
Rows 40-45: Repeat Row 37. (10).
Fasten off.

Second Side
Row 35: Skip 10 sts from Row 34, join Maize with a sc in next st, sc in next 11 sts, ch 1, turn. (12).
Row 36: Sc in ea sc across to last 2 sc, dec over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (11).

Eyes
With Black and Satin Stitch, embroider eyes over Rows 4 & 5.

Ears (Make 2)
Row 1: With Silver, ch 6; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across, ch 1, turn. (5).
Rows 2 & 3: 2 sc in first sc, sc in ea sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (7, 9).
Row 4: 2 sc in first sc, sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (10).
Row 5: Sc in ea sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (11).
Rows 6 & 7: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. (11).
Rows 8 & 9: Dec over first 2 sts, sc in ea sc across to last 2 sc, dec over last 2 sc,
ch 1, turn. (9, 7).
At end of first ear, ch 1, turn; at end of second ear, do not turn.
Rnd 10: Ch 1, working in ends of rows and in ea sc, sc around outer edge of Ear; join to first sc. Fasten off.
Sew Row 1 of ears to sides of head, with 'point' of ear at top.

Finishing
Sew Velcro on wrong sides of trunk, placing one side of Velcro on Row 30, and one side of Velcro on Row 24. Slip pacifer or toy through trunk, fold up and fasten.

Crochet Shopping Spree

I can't believe it has been 5 days since my last post here! Where do the days go anymore? It is not because I have been busy working on the Gingerbread Country Cutie, either! Shame on me, I have hardly put a crochet hook to her since the last time I posted. I did figure out some of the colors I am going to use for which clothing parts, so that is a big help. She should have been done already, though, so I can start working on the male Gingerbread Cutie. I guess I have some good excuses though.
First of all, I spent the day yesterday, with my mother-in-law, on a nice needlework and craft shopping spree! My father-in-law has been sick with cancer for many months and she has been at home taking care of him. I promised her a full day of shopping and lunch while my husband stayed with his dad. We had a wonderful day!
First of all, I picked up a book I had been wanting for a long time, Donna Kooler's Encyclopedia of Knitting by Leisure Arts.

And to make it even better, JoAnn's was having a half price coupon sale, so I got it for $12.50 instead of $24.95! I am hoping to find a nice replacement set of stitches from the gallery for my knitted scarf.
I already had Donna Kooler's Encyclopedia of Crochet by Leisure Arts,

and absolutely love it, so now I feel my set is complete. They have the nicest and most colorful sets of pattern swatches in both books I have ever seen!
Other than some Windchimes, that is the only thing I bought yesterday, but my MIL loaded up on yarn, books, and paint supplies. I think she had a really good time and now has enough supplies to keep her busy again for awhile.
Well, I really am going to get off now, and work on the Gingerbread Cutie. I need to get her finished. My momma is coming on Tuesday from California for her annual visit, and I won't have as much time for crocheting!

Not Feeling Blue

Not feeling Blue tonight is not exactly a good thing. Don't you know I went shopping for just the right Blue Red Heart yarn for my Gingerbread Country Cutie, and couldn't find anything I needed at any of the stores I went to! I could hardly believe it, but no one seemed to have any blue to choose from! I already had Country Blue, and had been thinking about using it anyway, so I guess that is the color that was meant to go into her outfit.
Of course, I just had to buy something at every store I went to, though! With all the designer yarns available today, it is very difficult to resist buying them all. So I chose a couple I thought I might have fun 'playing' with, and picked up the new VK, and went to check out the next store.




At the next store, I was able to hold myself back from getting any more yarn, but could not resist picking up these cute notecards.

I know, I know, they are not crochet, but they didn't have crochet, so I thought knitting was certainly the next best thing!
I can't wait to try the new Moda Dea Tutu. I have something in mind for my next column, if it works out, which is never a guarantee.
But, of course, I need to finish the Gingerbread first!

Somewhat of a Standstill

Gingerbread Country Cutie Girl is coming along very nicely. I am somewhat at a standstill now, though, until I find the perfect color Blue that I want to go along with her dress, which is made with Red Heart variegated Sierra. Of course, I could be making the body for the Boy, but I guess I wanted an excuse to update here tonight!
Here is a picture of the yarn I started knitting the scarf with.

I held both yarns together, and was using #17 knitting needles, casting on between 10-14 stitches each time a tried a new pattern. I frogged it several times because I did not like the way the pattern was coming out, which was not easy because of the Carmen yarn. It is a nice yarn, though, because it is incredibly soft!
It seems I have also solved the problem of the Zen/Suede Purse, at least temporarily. My middle daughter, Cristina, has fallen in love with a half finished purse, that looks like a clutch, in the bright pink Suede, called Belle Star.

The picture of the swatch does make the colors look good together. She oohed and aahed when she saw it sitting on my desk, so she has convinced me to make her a clutch bag, lol, which is nearly finished! I will take a picture of the completed purse soon. I still want to make the original purse design I had in mind, though!
But, of course, I must finish the Gingerbread Country Cuties first!
I am anxious to find just the right blue for her. I think maybe Light Periwinkle might do the trick. Now I have to hope I can find it at the store.
